Specialty Wellness Services
Beyond the thorough wellness examinations we offer, Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital has a number of specialty wellness services designed to ensure the lifelong health and vitality of your pet. These include:
Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine
Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital recognizes that there are a number of noninvasive, alternative therapies that can have profoundly beneficial effects on your pet’s health and wellbeing. In particular, acupuncture and herbal medicines have been shown to enhance the effectiveness of traditional therapies as well as provide relief to a number of chronic conditions. For example, acupuncture is particularly useful for treating musculoskeletal pain associated with hip dysplasia, arthritis, and over-exertion, among others.
In order to provide these important therapies to our clients’ pets, Dr. Martha Davis has undergone training from the prestigious Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine.
Comprehensive Ear Care
Ear care is an area of special interest to Dr. Martha Davis and one where she has pursued extensive advanced training.
Most ear infections and related issues are often the result of an underlying condition. These causational medical conditions are often undertreated, which can lead to chronic infection, scarring of the inner ear, hearing loss and generalized systemic infections.
Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital treats ear infections aggressively. We begin by taking samples of any discharge that may be associated with the infection and perform a thorough cytological examination to help us determine the source of the infection. Depending on the type of bacteria found during laboratory testing, we may send a sample to a specialty lab to determine if the infection is caused by pseudomonas, a particularly nasty bacteria that may require ongoing treatment.
Dermatological Care
Itching, scratching, and hot spots are all signs of allergies and skin conditions in pets. Allergies to pollen, dust and fleas are all very common and treatable, but if left untreated they can fester and become serious health concerns. No matter what your pet’s skin condition, he or she receives expert veterinary dermatological care at Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital. Special tests are used to identify the cause of your pet's skin condition and establish a treatment plan. We will also take the time to explain your pet’s condition, how to prevent future occurrences and the proper method of home treatment.
Cold Laser Therapy
To further reduce pain and promote healing after surgery, an injury or any other appropriate medical condition, we offer Class IV Cold Light Laser Therapy. This is a medical treatment that uses low-level lasers to stimulate the natural healing capabilities of the body’s cells. This form of laser therapy is effective at promoting healing on a cellular level as well as decreasing inflammation after surgery, injury or areas of the body affected by chronic conditions such as arthritis.
